Jacob Link, another of the pioneers of this community, departed this life at his home in Maxwell, November 8, 1919. He was born in Wittenberg, Germany, February 2, 1841 and at the time of his death was 78 years, 9 months and 6 days. He was the eldest of the eight children of Jacob and Christina Link. When 13 years old he was confirmed in the German Lutheran church of which he remained a faithful member until the time of his death.

In 1869 he came to the United States, landing at Philadelphia, remaining a short time in that city at the home of an uncle and then came to Washington Township, Polk County, Iowa, where a sister of Mrs. Link resided and with whom they stayed for about two years; when he purchased the farm known as the Link place, one mile north of Farrar and six miles south of Maxwell, where he lived, respected by all, for forty years. Seven years ago he removed to Maxwell where he has since resided and where he was well and favorably known by all.

He was married to Ursula Kopf in 1868. To this union seven children were born. Jacob of Farrar; William of Maxwell; John of Collins; Mrs. T.H. Morrison of Collins; Albert of Maxwell; Mrs. Wm. Morrison of Collins; and Philip who died in infancy. His wife died November 12, 1882. He was again married to Margaret Endress in 1883 and to this union seven children were born: Mrs. Wm. Crabb of Collins; Fred A. who resides on the home farm; Mrs. E.J. Niffenneger of Des Moines; Mrs. Ida McCord who died February 10, 1916; Mrs. J. E. Wallin of San Diego, California; Mabel and Vernon of Maxwell. All the children living were present at the time of his death except Mrs. Wallin.
