Final Rites Saturday For William Morrison - Nevada Journal (newspaper clipping)

Funeral services for the late William Morrison were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Collins Church of Christ, in charge of the Rev. Will Stevens of Washington, Iowa.

Mrs. Howard Southern and Eldon Geisler sang "Sweet Bye and Bye," "Beyond the Sunset" and "Never Grow Old," accompanied by Mrs. C.R.Stone at the piano.

The beautiful flowers were cared for by Mrs. Henry Dodd, Mrs. James Hanson, Mrs Ora Hanson and Mrs. Paul Borts.

Casket bearers were James Hall, Jefferson Morrison, Lowell Carver, Raymond Link, Ross Link and John Crabb. Interment was in Collins Evergreen Cemetery.

William Morrison, son of Thomas Jefferson and Anna (Strickler) Morrison, was born on the Morrison homestead southwest of Colllins in Jasper county, Oct. 3, 1872, and departed this life at his home in Collins Wednesday, Sept. 13, 1950, about 10:00 p.m., at the age of 77 years, 11 months and 10 days.

He grew to manhood on the farm where he was born and which he later owned.

On September 15, 1896, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Link of Maxwell. The following New Year's day they laid the foundation for a new house on the farm where 50 years later they celebrated their Golden Wedding.

To this union two sons were born, Clarence L. and Glen W.

After a severe illness following an accident about six years ago, Mr. Morrison found it advisable to leave the farm, so in March 1947 they moved to the present home in Collins.

He is survived by his wife, Mary, his sons, Clarence and Glen, and their wives: one granddaughter, Donna Lee; a sister, Mrs. Grace Hall of Des Moines; a brother, Thomas J. Morrison of near Collins; several nieces and nephews; a number of more distant relatives and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Viola Morrison and Mrs. Clara Carver, and one brother, T.H.Morrison.

He was a member of the Church of Christ and remained faithful to his church throughout the years.
