LAST RITES FOR KNUT P. TEIG

LIVED IN THE ROLAND COMMUNITY NEARLY ALL HIS LIFE

Knut P. Teig was born December 9, 1874 in Sevde, Norway. His parents were Paul O. and Britta Teig, and with them he came to America May 31, 1880, at the age of five years, and they settled on a farm south of Roland. On November 10, 1889, he was confirmed in the Bergen Lutheran church by Rev. Claus Jacobson.

On December 31, 1903 he was united in marriage to Mary Grove at her parents home in Roland, by Rev. J. N. Sandven. They bought a farm two miles east and one mile south of Roland where they established a home and lived for 43 years.

After they retired from the farm they resided in Nevada for two years until they bought a home in Roland.

To this union seven children were born. Edward, a twin to Ellen died in infancy. The six living children are: Palmer of Osceola, Mons of Ellsworth, Hubert on the home farm, Virginia (Mrs. Victor McKinney) of Colo, Kermit of West Union, and Ellen (Mrs. Orris Osheim) of Roland.

Mr. Teig was vitally interested in all agricultural, community and church organizations. He gave freely of his time to his many duties. He was a prominent member of the the Story County Farm Bueau, of which he was president and 4-H committeeman for many years. His many public duties included being president of the Farmers Cooperative Creamery, secretary of the Farmers Cooperative Elevator, president of the Story County Cow Testing association, and an active member of his church.

In addition to farming, he and his sons operated a dairy in Roland for twenty years.

On September 24 of this year he entered Mercy hospital in Des Moines to prepare for surgery. His condition became steadily worse and he passed away Tuesday, October 9 at the age of 76 years and 10 months.

In his passing he leaves to mourn his death his widow, six children and 19 grandchildren. He is also survived by his two brothers and two sisters: Peter of Roland and Ben of Adel, Carrie (Mrs. Lars Haugen) of St. Paul, Minn., and Amanda (Mrs. C. J. Henryson) of Billings, Mont., all of whom were present at the funeral. His parents and several brothers and sisters preceded him in death.

Funeral services were helf Friday afternoon, October 12, with a prayer service at the home, where O. S. Boyd sang, "In The Garden"; and at Bergen Lutheran church, where O. S. Boyd and Don H. Boyd sang a duet, "Jesus Lover of My Soul," and Otto J. Hanson sang, "Den Store Hvide Flok." Rev. Allen E. Nelson officiated at the services. Mrs. Herbert Houser of Whitten, Mrs. Wm. Dailey of Ames, and Mrs. Overt I. Holland of Roland, were in charge of the flowers.

Pall bearers were nephews of the deceased: Boyd Teig of St. Paul, Minn., Carroll Teig of Des Moines, John McDonald of Des Moines, Harold McCord of Dennison, James McCord of Storm Lake, and Charles West of Oskaloosa. Burial was made in the Roland cemetery.

Attending the funeral were relatives and friends from Billings, Mont., St. Paul, Minn., West Union, Ellsworth, Colo, Storm Lake, Dennison, Oskaloosa, Des Moines, Story City, Stanhope, Randall, Nevada, McCallsburg, Ames, Whitten and other communities.
