Herschel O. Williams

Herschel O. Williams, 79, Story City, died Sunday, Feb. 12, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. He had been a patient there for several months.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday from the Grace United Methodist Church in Story City. The Rev. Duane O'Toole will officiate, with burial in the Story City Municipal Cemetery.

Mr. Williams was born June 6, 1898, in Stratford to Chris and Marie Williams. He married Icel Riley March 23, 1927. He operated Williams Grain Elevator in Story City until 1956. From 1961-1965 he worked for the Iowa Department of Agriculture as a grain and seed inspector. He retired in 1965.

Mr. Story was on the first Story City Hospital Board; was a past president of the Greater Community Congress; served as Story City mayor from 1943-48; was a Republican committeeman in 1962; and was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Sons of Norway.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Cheryl Beraudy of Cedar Rapids and Phyllis McKay of Minnetonka, Minn.; one son, Gordon of Charles City; and two grandchildren.

Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
