Andrew J. Waterman was born in the state of New York, Aug. 22nd, 1831 and died at the home of his son-in-law and daughter Mr. and Mrs. D. Ladd, Nov. 18, 1908, aged 77 yrs, 2 months, 27 days.
Mr. Waterman was united in marriage to Miss Nancy J. Dilley in the state of Ohio in the spring of 1856. To this union 8 children were born, two dying in infancy. Mr. Waterman with his family moved to Iowa about 49 years ago, settling in Delaware Co. In the spring of 1868 he moved with his family to LeRoy Township, Bremer Co., and has lived in this county ever since. His wife died Sept. 28, 1868.
Mr. Waterman was married again to Miss Emily Rockwood. To this union 8 children were born, two dying in infancy.
Mr. Waterman joined the Christian church in early manhood in the state of Ohio.
After moving to Iowa he united with the United Brethren church. Mr. Waterman enlisted in the service of his country in the fall of 1863 enlisting as a private in Company G, 6th Iowa Calvary, and served till the close of the war.
He leaves to mourn his loss a wife and 9 children; 5 sons and 4 daughters.
May the clouds of sorrow cast over this lonely family be softened and lifted by the all-wise love of a pitying Father who is good and whose mercy endureth forever.
The funeral was held at the Congregational church conducted by the Rev. W.A. McCorkle. Interment was made in the Freemont Cemetery. At the grave the G.A.R. Post conducted the service.We the undersigned wish to thank the friends, especially the old soldiers, who were so kind to us during the illness, death and burial of our father. The many kind acts by the old soldiers were more than could be expected and we want them to accept our thanks and remember that such acts were fully appreciated. To all we are grateful and should be glad at any time to return the kindnesses.
