From Story County Watchman September 23, 1904

George H. Alfred, an old and highly respected citizen, living northeast of Ames, in Milford township, died Friday morning after a brief illness. Mr. Alfred had reached the advanced age of 83 years. He was one of the pioneer settlers of Story county, having come her forty years aso, and has lived on a farm the greater part of this period. He had long been identified with the Baptist church. He leaves to mourn his demise a wife and six children, three sons and three daughters, also a sister older than he, who resides in California. The funeral services were held at the family home Sunday morning and the remains interred in the Ames cemetery.

Geo. Alford, an old resident of Milford twp. was buried at Plesant Grove last Sunday. He lived on the farm, where he died over 42 years and was about 84 when he died.
