Mrs. Ella Boston

The last rites for Mrs. Ella Boston, a pioneer of McCallsburg were held Nov. 3 at 2 p.m. at the Presbyterian church in McCallsburg with the Rev. Donald Jafvert in charge.

Pallbearers were Walter Rasmussen, Will Mehlow, Floyd Steelman, Peter Egenes, Jim Hall and J.M. Olson.

In charge of the memorial gifts and flowers were Mrs. Delmer Helland and Mrs. Richard Johnson.

Mrs. Herbert Eddy played the organ and accompanied Mrs. F.E. Nail and Catherine Craig, who sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Beyond the Sunset."

Burial was in the McCallsburg cemetery.

Mrs. Boston was born of pioneer parents, Charles and Eliza Hendrickson, on a farm north of Zearing Nov. 14, 1866. She was christened Mary Ellen Hendrickson. At 15 years of age the family moved to McCallsburg where the Hendicksons owned a boarding house. On Dec. 26, 1885, she became the bride of John A. Boston. They had three children: Grace, Mrs. Enock Cole, now deceased, Nora, Mrs. Maurice Britton of Nevada; and Glen of McCallsburg.

The Bostons operated the hardware store, the hotel and general store in the area, but were primarily farmers.

Mrs. Boston was active in the Presbyterian women's work. She lived alone following the death of her husband in 1931.

For the last two weeks she had been a patient at the Story county hospital where she died Nov. 1.
