Mrs. Josie Sorem

McCallsburg -- Funeral service for Mrs. Josie Sorem, Marshalltown, was held Monday afternoon at Purcell-Davis Funeral Home, Marshalltown.

Pallbearers were Eugene Corbin, Virgil Corbin, Dwayne Corbin, Gary Hager, Christy Hager and Sherman Sorem. Soloist was Thomas Stensvaag and the organist, Mary Louise Bennet. Rosella Dillon, Betty Willis and Joyce Swanson were in charge of flowers.

Graveside service and burial were in McCallsburg Cemetery.

Josie O., daughter of Isaac and Bertha Olson, was born in Hardin County June 4, 1882, and died at her home March 2 at the age of 73 following a three-week illness. A heart ailment was the cause of death.

She was married to Osmund O. Sorem of McCallsburg Sept. 24, 1902. They lived in Story County until moving to Marshalltown in 1930.

Her husband, parents and three children preceded her in death.

Survivors are five children -- Mable (Mrs. Joseph Kacin), Gary, Ind.; Julia (Mrs. Orville Corbin), Ames; Bertha (Mrs. Ergen Britson), Marshalltown; and Pearl (Mrs. Harold Hager), Davenport; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers, William Olson, Mason City, and L.T. Olson, Marshalltown; and two sisters, Mrs. Lena Jones and Mrs. Anna Peterson, Marshalltown.

Relatives at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Ole Haaland, McCallsburg, Mr. and Mrs. Tillet Haaland, McCallsburg, adn their parents, Mr. and Mrs. T.O. Haaland and Mr. and Mrs. Juel Haaland, Nevada.
