J. T. BUMP

John T. Bump, more commonly known to his Nevada friends as "Milt," died at the home of his parents Mr. and Mrs. M. V. Bump, twenty minutes past six last Saturday.

"Milt," was born near Rose Hill, Mahaska county, Iowa, on March 14th, 1878, and died in this city on Sept. 12th, 1903, being 25 years, 5 months and 28 days old. When he was a lad of two years he moved with parents to their farm near Zearing where they remained until the fall of '97 when they moved to this city where they have since resided.

About four years ago he had the measles and a back set and was compelled to go to Des Moines to be doctored, but his trouble seems to date back to that time and for the past year he gradually grew much worse. Three weeks before his death his parents took him down to Des Moines to the home of his cousin R. R. Bump where he might be treated by Dr. Drake, the great specialists, in hopes of saving his life. On last Thursday there seemed to be hopes of his recovery, but Friday he grew worse, and requested that evening that he be brought home at once as he wished to die at home. As his parents wer only to glad to gratify his ever wish, arrangements were made at once to bring him home and they arrived here on the 1:20 train Saturday noon. After arriving there he was only conscious twice, that was then he was carried into the house, he then recognized Will McIntosh, spoke to him and held out his hand, and later on in the afternoon he uttered th name Dannie, twice, that being the name of a little nephew who lived with them and whom he fairly worshiped. Dr. Drake pronounced his death as being caused by the overflow of the gall which was deranged by impurities left in his system at the time he had the measles.

He was a man who will be missed by his many friends and associates as well as relatives being of a high and sunny disposition, which is admired by all. His friends were only numbered by his acquaintances. A few years ago he was one of the firm of Bump & Son who owned a feed store in this city and later he was a partner of his fathers in the Land Business. He also held the position of constable of the city and was riding bailiff for several terms of the District Court.

The funeral services were held at the home at 2:00 o'clock Monday afternoon conducted by the Rev. Chas. D. Hougham of Zearing, and interment made in the Nevada Cemetery.

Besides many friends "Milt" leaves to mourn his loss as near relatives a father, mother, brothers Bert and Fred Bump and a half brother, Frank Bolton. A sister, Mrs. Edna Waldo passed awasy Feb. 15, 1898, aged 27 years and also an infant brother.

The Bump family have a large circle of sympathizing friends who mourn withthem over the loss of one they held so dear.
