From Story County Watchman August 14, 1903

DIED.--On Sunday morning after a brief illness from typhoid fever, at the residence of W. L. Ginter in Colo. Prof. Iver B. Allard was born in Story county on Oct. 12, 1872, and died at the age of 30 years, 9 months and 27 days, having made his home in Story county during his lifetime. On the 15th of August, 1899, he was united in marriage to Miss Annie L. Ginter, whom he leaves to mourn his loss and look forward to the meeting in the future. He also leaves a father, a mother, four sisters and brother. The funeral services were conducted at the M. E. church in Colo, the sermon being by Rev. J. M. Bamford assisted by Rev. G. E. Roberts of Maxwell. He has been a life time member of the M. E. church having joined it at the age of 15 years. By his special desire the Masonic fraternity took charge of the services according to their ritual and the attendance was quite large from that quarter there being a number present from Story City, Nevada, Ames and other points in the county, as well as from Columbia Lodge, Colo, of which he was a member, all under direction of Worshipful Master Yeager, who assisted in the work at the grave by Past Master Hunt of Ame, who made the ceremony impressive, and it long will be remembered by those who attended. The ladies of the Eastern Star also turned out well and assisted in the work.

His early days were spent on a farm near Colo, and he obtained his education in the local schools followed by a course in the college at Shenandoah where he graduated, since which time he has been teaching in Colo and Story City, where he was engaged when the last call came. He held a State Certificate for the schools of the State.

He was highly esteemed by all who knew him and his friends were all with whom he became acquainted in the line of work or companionship. He stood high with all in this section and one and all sincerely mourn his loss, as taking one of the bright and growing young man of the country from our midst. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
