From Story County Watchman July 5, 1901

Monday evening our people were startled by the information that Gilbert Hanson had been killed by a bolt of lightening at Green's Lake in Grant township during the storm that afternoon. It appears that he and Mr. Crain were over there on a trip of pleasure and were caught out with the result that the bolt killed him while stunning Mr. C. who when he came too, noticed that Mr. Hanson was immovable and then ascertained that he was dead. He sent a boy to a neighboring house and secured assistance and the body was taken to Nevada. Mr. Crain was stunned and up to this writing is not entirely over the effects. Mr. Hanson leaves a wife and two small children to mourn his loss. Mr. H. was working at the tile factory of Mr. McHose just west of twon. The body was taken to the undertaking rooms of Messrs.
