OBITUARY.

Mrs. Ella Zumwalt was born near this place July 14, 1860, and lived her girlhood days in the vicinity of West Lebanon, Ind. She was married at the age of sixteen years to Geo. Zumwalt at Danville, Ill., Aug. 29, 1876. To them was born two sons Henry and Leonard who with the husband survive her. She was a Christian from childhood. Mr. and Mrs. Zumwalt moved to Kansas in '79 and there Mrs. Zumwalt was a member of the Baptist church. Later they moved to Iowa and for the last seventeen years she has been a member of the M. E. Church. She was a pure minded, earnest christian, a true wife, and a loyal friend, a patient motherly soul who buried her personal burden within her own breast and threw the cloak of charity over the errors of her neighbors. For the past two years her desire was, ince she was in very poor health, to again visit her friends and scenes of her early childhood. Goldsmith in his "Deserted Village" gives utterance to a universal city when he says "And as the hare whom hounds and horses pursue, pants to the place from whence at first she flew; I still had hopes, life long vexation past. Here to return and die at home at last." This suffering soul had hopes ere lifes long vexation was past here to return and here she died at home at last. That this desire might be gratified the boys at home agreed to undergo manly sacrifices and the husband started with her from Nevada Iowa, Dec. 5 to make this visit, but before its completion she grew worse gradually weakened, and died Jan. 12, at 1 p. m. aged 40 years, 5 mo. and 28 days. Aside from the husband and two sons mentioned she leaves her father, two sisters and a multitude of friends to mourn her loss.
