IOWA CENTER.
The sad news reached this place Sunday of Mr. Griffith's death which we learn was sudden. He is an old resident of Elwell and a father to Mrs. W. K. Wood living south of town.

GRIFFITH--Died Sunday p. m. No. 19, 1899, aged 79 years and 25 days.
John M. Griffith was born Oct. 24, 1820, in Buckingham county, Virginia. Living near the ocean he learned the trade of ship-building. When about eighteen years of age he went to Ohio where he lived with an older brother and settled in Highland count. On April 14, 1841, he married Miss B. B. Rice and to them were born eight children of whom six survive.
The funeral services were held at the residence Wednesday at 2 p. m. conducted by Rev. Howe, and the remains laid to rest in the Center Grove cemetery. The surviving children are Mrs. Sarah A. Wood, Iowa Center; Mrs. I. T. Kirk, Nevada; Mrs. M. E. Jarvill, Cambridge; John W. Griffith, and Mrs. B. C. Matthews, of Elwell. These with their children and grandchildren are left behind with the aged companion to mourn his departure.
