From Story County Watchman October 13, 1899

Word was received last evening by U. S. Alderman from Santa Anna Cal., that his mother had just died at that place. No Farther particulars are known but are expected at any time. Mrs. Alderman was the wife of T. E. Alderman the pioneer hardware merchant not only of Nevada but of Story county, therefore was one of the oldest of our residents having lived in Nevada from the very first existence of our city. Mr. Alderman was with her in that far off land. Word is expected at any time as to when the remains will reach here when the fact will be given to the public. To those who are acquainted with her little need be said as to her past life as that is like an open book to all who have been in the city very many years. That she stood high in the community is too well know to need any comment. We have no further particulars as to the immediate cause but will give them the coming week.

From Story County Watchman October 20, 1899

DIED--At Santa Anna, California, Thursday Oct. 12th, 1899, Hannah A., wife of T. E. Alderman, aged 67 years 1 month and 2 days.

News of this event reached our city the same day and was a surprise to many who were not familiar with the facts as to her health. While it was generally understood that Mr. and Mrs. Alderman with their son Ed. had been in California on account of their health, and that Mrs. A. had been suffering from heart trouble, yet it was not supposed that she was seriously ill, and the report was surprice. The reason for the death is given as neuralgia of the stomach.

Mrs. Alderman was the daughter of Samuel and Parmelia Reynolds and a native of Barlow, Washington county, Ohio, seeing the light on Sept. 10, 1832. The family moved to Lee county in 1846 or 1847, and she was married to Mr. Alderman just over the border in the present State of Missouri on the 6th of June, 1850. They resided in Lee County until they moved to Nevada in 1853. Their life in the new region was one of the usual privations of the pioneer of which she has often expressed herself to her many friends of later days. They were blessed with the following named children who are yet living in or about the city save Mary Nevada and Ida who preceded them to the great beyond. The names of their children are Oscar B. Mary Nevada, Ida, Minnie A., Ed. T., and Ulysses S.

She was the first or among the very first of white women who resided in the county and as such saw the usual privations of the pioneer. But gradually the family raised in wealth as the country advanced and at this time they are among the most esteemed of our citizens all of who give her credit as one of the best of our women. The loss while more directly confined to her family yet it is a loss which all join and mourn thus showing their appreciation of her as a wife, mother and neighbor.

Saturday morning Mr. Alderman and son Edward started from their California place of residence and arrived home Tuesday evening. The casket was opened on Wednesday at the home in this city and services were held under the ministration of Rev. Shrader, and the remains tenderly laid to rest to await the morning when parting shall be no more. The family have been receiving the utmost sympathy from all in this their hour of trial and trouble.
