From Story County Watchman June 30, 1899

Mr. and Mrs. Allen Sewell have had a succession of sad news the past week. On Wednesday, last, they received a message which told of the death of Fred A. Mullens at Webster City, a nephew of Mrs. Sewell. They went to his funeral which was on the 22nd he was 35 years of age and leaves a widow and two children. Mrs. V. A. Ballou, of Nevada, Iowa, wife of the editor of THE WATCHMAN, published in that city, and a sister of Mrs. Sewell, also attended the funeral of her nephew at Webster City. On Friday evening, before they had got fairly rested from their trip, Mr. and Mrs. Sewell received a telegram from Nevada that brought the sad news that Mrs. Ballou had just died. Mr. and Mrs. Sewell went to Nevada and attended the funeral. Mrs. Ballou was well known by a number of our readers, as she had visited her sister here several times. She was 56 years old. Her daughter Edith was here when the news of her mothers death came, and she left on the first train for Nevada.
