From Story County Watchman March 3, 1899

Thursday night O. D. Allen died at his residence two miles northwest of Ames aged about 63 years. The last rites were held from the residence on Sabbath last. He has been sick with Brights' disease for some three years. He leaves a wife, three sons and two daughters to mourn his loss. One son lives in Colorado but was able to be at home at the close. Mr. Allen was well known in Story county and his many friends extend to them their sympathy in this their hour of trial and sorrow.
