From Story County Watchman October 14, 1898

Ames Watchman.

Mrs. Mary Jane Kelso, who died last Sunday at the age of 67, was one of the pioneer settlers of Story county. Mary Jane Carr was born in Licking county, Ohio, in 1831. When young she married to John Kelso, with whom she moved to Oregon, where they remained only a few years, when they returned and settled in Story county.

SUBMITTER'S NOTE: The deceased was born Mary Jane Parr (not Carr as stated) and married firstly, Jeremiah Ruby by whom she had one son: Marion D. Ruby ca. 1851. She married secondly John Kelso by whom she had one known son: Mountain Harry Kelso, born in Oregon 28 October 1863. Her last marriage to Reuben Tripp was before 1880 (as she is listed in the 1880 census as Mary J. Tripp.) Mr. Tripp died in 1895 and apparently she took back the name "Kelso" before her death.
