OBITUARY.--James McArthur was born January 5th, 1844, died June 21st, 1898. Deceased was born in Crawford county, Penn., and moved with his parents to where he resided until 1870, when they came to Colo, Story county, Iowa. "Jim" as he was familiarly called, was unmarried and cared for his aged parents until their death a few years ago; when he associated himself with his brother-in-law, C. C. King, and became a member of his family. Nearly a year ago he paid a visit to his sister, Mrs. Kate Orr, of Washington Springs, S. Dakota. On his return home as he was leaving the cars, he fell and the car wheels crushed his right hand, rendering an amputation necessary, and the loss of three fingers and a portion of his hand was the result. Deceased was of strong nervous temperament and the strain upon his nerves was to great, that notwithstanding the efforts of his physicians and the untiring care of his friends, he became a victim of mental despondency, and entered the Hospital for the Insane at Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, November 5th, where he remained until his death. The remains were brought to Colo for interment. The funeral services conducted by Rev. E. Mell of the United Evangelical church of Marshalltown, was largely attended by relatives and friends. Four sisters and one brother are living and all were present at the obsequies. A loving brother, a firm friend and an upright citizen has passed away and the solemn words of the text appeal to all: "Be Ye therefore, ready for in an hour that you know not the son of man cometh."
