Betty Helen Daley, 90, a long time Ames resident, went to be with her Lord June 14, 2011. A gathering of friends and family visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 17, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way. A 10:30 a.m. funeral service will be at Calvary United Methodist Church, 24th Street and Hoover Avenue, in Ames. Burial wil be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Betty was born Jan. 29, 1921, in Blue Earth, Minn., the daughter of Charles and Helen (Dayton) Starbuck. She moved to Ames in the 1930s and attended Milford High School. She married Merle Daley in the Rose Garden at Iowa State University on June 26, 1938. She worked at Donnelley Marketing for 20 years. She volunteered at Mary Greeley Medical Center in the hospitality shop, and at Calvary United Methodist Church. She was invloved with the United Methodist Women and other church duties, and she was a member of Ames Women's Club. She loved cooking baking and enjoyed flowers of all kinds. She truly had the gift of hospitality and opened her heart and door to everyone.

She is survived by daughters, Dee Ann (John) Weiss, of Ames, and Marlene (Dan) Quillen, of Beulah, Colo.; grandsons, John III, James, Jeff, Chad and Matt; great-grandchildren, Emma, Sarah, Cory, Carson, Max Noah, Evan, Bodie, Piper, Autumn and Weston; and a sister Joyce Stenson, of Marshalltown.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Merle, in 1979; and brothers, Donald and Darrell.

Memorials may be directed to Calvary United Methodist Church.
