From Story County Watchman March 25, 1898

Wednesday evening word was received that Allan R. Smith was dangerously ill at his home in Chicago, and his father arranged and started for that city at once. Mr. Smith died that evening and this morning the remains were brought to this city, where interment will be made in the Nevada cemetery. His illness was very brief and the cause is noted as pneumonia. He is well known in this city and his father, mother and brothers are now residents here and to them the sympathy of all is extended. Mr. Smith was thirty-two years of age and a native of Story county. The remains were met by a number of our citizens and the exercises this afternoon will be aided by the Masonic order of this city, he being a member of Nevada lodge, of this city.
