From Story County Watchman January 29, 1897

DIED.--On Friday afternoon after a brief illness, Ellis Armstrong, of neuralgia of the stomach. Mr. Armstrong was born February 26, 1814, in Lexington, Kentucky, therefore was aged 82 years, 11 months and 22 days. In 1838 his parents moved to Franklin, Johnson county, Indiana, and of course he went with them. He was married June 24th, 1842, to Charlotte Moore, who survives him. In 1854 they moved to Des Moines and in 1855 to Nevada, where they resided ever since. Eight children blessed the union, five girls and three boys, Mrs. J. T. Stone, of Nevada, Mrs. H. M. Waters, of Kansas City, W. E. of Roland, S. E. and H. A., of Nevada, all of whom were present at the last rites.

Mr. Armstrong was well known to all our people, and to make extended ornaments would be superfluous, there suffice it to say he was one of the noblemen of this section of the state, strictly honest in all his dealings, rendering to one and all that which belonged to them from first to last, and there are none but give him this credit. He came to Nevada when it was little more than a hamlet and aided all within his power to make it a pleasant and profitable home to all, and saw it build up to its present substantial state.

The funeral was conducted by Rev. Black of the Baptist Church of Ames, assisted by Rev. Palm of the Presbyterian Chruch of this city. He was a member of the Baptist society and had been for years.

The day was a cold and disagreeable one, yet the turn out was large and fully as great as the residence would accomodate, and thus showed the appreciation of the aged gentleman who had been called only a little before them.
