From Story County Watchman December 18, 1896

Jno. C. Ferris, who has been sick at the Wall House for the past ten days with pneumonia, died last night. The Knights of Pythias Lodge of this city took care of him during his sickness and made him as comfortable as possible. At noon yesterday he was apparently in no danger, but soon after became worse and, as noted, breathed his last. He had considerable money with him as well as other valuables, which were cared for. His sister was expected this morning from Moline, Illinois. He was a traveler for A. Rider & Co., of Chicago, and was making good sales, when taken ill. The K. P. are to be commended for their care and thoughtfulness, and it speaks well for th Order that they took such good care of him.
