From Story County Watchman September 18, 1896

Ames Times: ....The community was startled last Sabbath morning by the death of Mrs. Perry Ayers, the wife of our artists. She had been sick about two weeks with typhoid fever. She died about 2 o'clock on Sabbath morning. Until about an hour before her heath she was supposed by her friends to be getting better. Her mother, Mrs. Whipple, of Glenwood, was here helping to take care of her. A very brief service was conducted at the home at 10 o'clock on Monday morning, by Rev. F. J. Douglass, when Mr. Ayers and Mrs. Whipple with the remains took the train at 11:15 to Algona where the main funeral service was to be held and where the body was to be interred.
