From Story County Watchman January 24, 1896

Maxwell Murmurings.

Death entered our community last Saaturday, January 18, and removed, after a long illness, Barbara Allen, the beloved wife of Daniel W. John. She was the youngest child of John B. Olinger, who died about twenty years ago, and his wife Elizabeth, who died over two years ago. Her birth place was Carroll county, Ind., and the date was Oct. 24, 1847. She was brought by her parents to Iowa when a child, and grew up to womanhood in Indian Creek township, Story county, where she was married to Daniel W. John March 17, 1867. They were the parents of eight children--five daughters and three sons. The daughter Mary died a few years ago. The other children were all at home when the mother died. When about twelve year of age she became a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian church, and continued in its fellowship until her death. She was a noble Christian woman and her loss is very deeply felt by th community. The funeral took place Monday 20, in the C. P. church here, being conducted by Rev. Furguson, assisted by Revs. Doty and Troup. The music, selected by the family, was well rendered by a choir composed of J. J. Fleming, Mrs. Southwick, S. B. Miller, Edna Ellis and Ethel Thompson, with F. W. Hill at the organ. The house was entirely full. The family have the sympathy of the entire community in this sore bereavement.
