From Story County Watchman October 18, 1895
At the late home in Richland township, Story county, Iowa, October 16, 1895, Miss Georgia Ann Smay, daughter of David and Sarah J. Smay. The deceased was born in Marion county, Ind., Dec. 1, 1857. The parents moved to Iowa in September, 1863, at which time she became a resident of this county. She was 27 years, 10 months and 16 days old. Miss Smay had been in declining health for upwards of two years, and for the past twelve months it has been apparent that she was a victim of consumption. She bore her protracted sufferings with great patience and resignation. She has been an earnest and faithful Christian, teaching in the local Sabbath School, and working in the church, being a member of the Johnson's Grove M. E. church, and held in admiration by all for her quiet and consistent piety. The funeral services were conducted on Thursday, October 17, at the above named church by Rev. J. R. Horswell. A large audience gathered to witness the last ceremonies. The remains were laid to rest in the Johnson's Grove cemetery. Peace, and farewell till the morning of the resurrection.
