From Story County Watchman February 15, 1895
DIED.--At her home, Feb. 8, 1895, Mrs. Mary Agnes Stultz, wife of Mr. George H. Stultz, of this city.
The deceased had been a sufferer in a greater or lesser degree for a number of years. Last fall in company with her husband, she spent a few weeks at Colfax, hoping to improve her condition. The immediate effect was very gratifying and gave reason to hope for ultimate recovery, but that fond hope was disappointed, and as winter set in the first serious stafe of her illness commenced, the nature and severity of her complicated ailments indicating death was inevitable.
She was born in Howard township, Story county, Iowa, July 30, 1861. With the exception of a few years spent elsewhere she lived with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John James, until the years of womanhood. Her educational training began and was continued in the country schools until about the age of thirteen, when she entered the Nevada high school. Here she continued for a few years, living in the family of her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Bates. Later she attended the high school at Leavenworth, Kansas. Her religious as well as her intellectual training from the beginning carefully attended to, and quite early she made a profession of religion and united with the Methodist Episcopal church.
On March 13, 1883, she united in marriage to George H. Stultz, whose devotion as a husband rendered happy the years of her wedded life. Her final illness was characterized by true Christian fortitude. She never complained, but said that "the burden was never too great" and that "God makes no mistakes." She was completely resigned to His will, hoping only for recovery that she might engage with increased zeal in all christian work. She enjoyed all along the constant personal attendance of her mother and husband, also that of her sister MIss Ida Stultz, whose love and faithfulness she often expressed great appreciation for. She took infinite comfort in talking with her mother in regard to the future life and in hearing her read from the Scripture.
The funeral services were held at the M. E. church conducted by the pastor, Rev. J. R. Horswell, who delivered an address based upon Rev XXII, 5, "And there shall be night no more, and they need no light of lamp; neither light of sun, for the Lord God shall give them light; and they shall reign for ever and ever." The interment was int he Nevada cemetery.
T. C. JAMES.
