From Story County Watchman November 2, 1894

DIED.--William E. Tichenor was born in Virginia, April 19, 1817, and was married to Susanna Applegate in May, 1841, and died Oct. 24, 1894. There were seven children of the union, three boys and four girls. All have passed beyond into the unseen world but two, Mrs. Thomas and Mrs. Sherman, 419 East Sixth street. He has been ailing for five weeks and suffered a great deal; but said to a friend on Sunday afternoon, I have pain, but I have a peace that passeth understanding. In his weak way he would say, "Victory! victory! I have a home in heaven." He was a man of great faith and lived a quiet and peaceful life and the hopethat his friends have in his death is the hope of the righteous.

Precious in his sight is the death of his saints. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church for fiftty years. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. James Small, also by Rev. Fegtley at the residence of Mrs. Applegate.
