DIED.--On Tuesday at 11:15 a. m., Mrs. Sylvina wife of Wm. Mathews at their home in the south part of Nevada township, after a brief illness. The remains were enterred at the cemetery at Iowa Center yesterday. The obituary will appear next week.

OBITUARY.--Sylvina Dunlap Mathews died at her home in the south part of Nevada township, Story County, Iowa, on Dec. 11, 1893, after an illness of almost four years continuance. Sylvia Dunlap was born in Cumberland county, Pa., July 26, 1829. Her parents moved to Hardin county, Ohio, when she was young. She was married to Jonathan Straw*, Oct. 3, 1851. Six children were the fruits of this marriage, of which four are still living. In 1861, they came to Iowa and settled in Jones county, and afterwards came to Story county, where she lived until her death. She was married to Wm. Mathews July 28, 18--*. One daughter was born to them, now Mrs. George Chaffin. Mrs. M. was a true good woman. She was a member of the Christian church. After coming to Iowa, she united with the M. E. Church in Anamosa. 1889 she and her husband became members of the Evangelical Association at Iowa Centre. In which communication she died, February 18, 1890, she had a stroke of paralysis from which she never recovered, yet she bore up remarkably well, as she was a woman of great fortitude and patience. The funeral occured at Iowa Center on Thursday, 14th, and was largely attended. Rev. Stauffacher had charge of the general exercises and the sermon was preached by Rev. Ferguson of Maxwell. Her husband has lost a faithful companion, and her children as wll as her step children a loving mother, her church a true member, and the community a good neighbor.

* SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Sylvina Dunlap's first husband was Jonathan Shaw, not "Straw" as stated, whom she married in Hardin County, Ohio October 2, 1849 according to marriage records. Additionally, the second marriage date is also wrong. According to Story County marriage records William Mathews married Sylvina on July 19, 1870.
