Former Collins
Resident, Is Dead

The Gazette is indebted to Mrs. A. L. Pitcher for a copy of the Stewartsville, Mo., News, containing the obituary of a native son of the Collins community, John C. Hidy.

Mr. Hidy was born and reared on the farm now owned by E. F. Day and tenanted by Charles Dodd. He and his brother Will operated one of the first general stores in Collins. After his marriage he bought the old homestead and lived there until 1918, when they moved to Missouri.

The following is from the Stewartsville News:

John Charles Hidy, son of Joseph L. and Joanna Hidy, was born March 9, 1862, at Collins, Iowa. Departed this life April 12, 1937, at the age of 75 years, 1 month and 3 days.

He was married to Miss Amelia Bear at Independence, Mo. in 1887. To this union two children were born, a daughter Lena and a son Israel, both of whom passed to the beyond in early childhood; his wife also died in June 1893.

On February 17, 1895, he was united in marriage to Miss Hattie E. Boyer. To this union six children were born as follows: Harold B. Hidy of Kirksville, Mo.; Joe L. Hidy, Gordon E. Hidy of Stewartsville; Mrs. Grace McCoppin of Huntington Park, Cal.; Mrs. Alta Hamann and Mrs. Mildred Johnson of Stewartsville. Besides the six children he leaves his wife and ten grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. Hidy moved to Stewatsville from Collins, Ia., in March 1918, and has resided on the farm here west of town for nineteen years. He was the last one of his father's family.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon April 14, from the L. D. S. church in Stewartsville. Sermon by Patriarch Ammon White of Independence, Mo., assisted by Elder O. Salisbury of St. Joseph.

Burial was in the Stewartsville cemetery.
