From Story County Watchman April 21, 1893

DIED--At his home in New Albany township of heart failure, Wednesday, April 12, 1893, Samuel Swinbank. The deceased was born April 2, 1843, in West Moreland, England, and come to this country in 1869, settled in Iowa and in 1878, where he remained until his death. He was married to Miss Martha Martindale February 16, 1869. Eight children were born to them five of whom are living to mourn his loss, three of the having preceded him to his long home. He joined the Episcopal church by confirmation in his fifteenth year. The deceased possessed eminent traits of character. Among other things, he was very careful to keep his word inviolate, and was honest in all his dealings. In his death the community has lost a good neighbor, and the sorrowing wife and children a devoted husband and a kind and loving father. Funeral services were held in the M. E. church in Colo, Saturday, April 15th. The remains were accompanied by large company of people from the vicinity in which he lived tendering their sympathy and respect to the bereaved ones, in behalf of him whom they held in high esteem. His body was laid to rest in the Colo cemetery, A. M. Elliot officiating.
