From Story County Watchman March 31, 1893

The following item is from the des Moines Leader of Tuesday and refers to an old resident of this place, and one who was quite well known in all parts of the county. D. H. McCord* was a good man and his many friends here will regret to hear of the end:

Word was received from County Superintendent McCord* yesterday of the death of his father in Great Bend, Kansas. The Leader publishes the information to the effect that the father of Mr. Cord had received very serious injuries in a runaway in his home town last Thursday, from which serious results were feared because of his age. But so sudden a death was a surprise to his friends here who did not know how severe his injuries were. Superintendent McCord went to Kansas Saturday.

*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: The Polk County Superintendent was William A. McCord, son of Daniel H. and Rosanna B. (Alexander) McCord. Daniel H. McCord is referenced in accounts of the Kirkman murder trials.
