The Ames Watchman
A farmer named Caleb Walters, living four miles north of Ames, while walking on the railroad track towards, and within a mile of Gilbert Station Saturday afternoon, was struck and almost instantly killed by the pile driver train, which was running backward. Mr. Walters was 72 years old and quite deaf. He has lived in the community for thirty years. The trainsmen took him aboard the train and brought him here, but he died on the way. The funeral was held in the Baptist Church Tuesday and the remains were enterred in the Nevada cemetery beside relatives and friends.
