From Story County Watchman February 5, 1892

OBITUARY--Last Monday Morning this community was shocked and saddened by the announcement of the death of Mrs. Margery Gilmore, wife of Mr. Geo. Gilmore and mother to Will Gilmore. This event was so unexpected that it was a difficult matter to fet the friends of the deceased to believe the report. Mrs. Gilmore had been sick for about a week but no one thought her seriously ill. Everything was done for her that could have been done by willing, loving hands but all in vain.

The Gilmore family is well and favorably known in Story county. They were among our first settlers and have prospered with the general prosperity of the country. Mr. Gilmore is one of our shrewdest business men and best farmers, and has a large circle of acquaintances who sympathise with him in his great loss. This stroke falls heavily upon him. For forty-three years Mrs. Gilmore shared with him the joys and sorrows of married life. They were devotedly attached to each other and she will be greatly missed by her bosom friend and companion. Mrs. Gilmore was born in Derrylee, Ireland, in April, 1819. Emigrated to America in April, 1844. Married in New York City, 7th March, 1849. Died Feb. 1, 1892. Mr. and Mrs. Gilmore were consistent members of the Ames Baptist Church. She died in that faith, altho' raised a Presbyterian. The funeral services were conducted at the home of the deceased, Wednesday, Feb. 3d, by the pastor of the Baptist Church. These services were largely attended, which shows the high esteem in which the family was held, and the remains were followed to the cemetery in Nevada by a large number of relatives and friends where all that is mortal of Mrs. Gilmore was lowered to its last resting place.

Not for the dead in Christ we weep,
Their sorrows now are o'er;
The sea is calm, the tempest past,
On that eternal shore.

Their peace is sealed, their rest is sure
Within that better home;
A while we sleep and linger here,
Then follow to the tomb.
--Ames Intelligencer.

In the same paper:

Mrs. George Gilmore died at the residence of her husband in Milford township on Monday last and Wednesday the remains were interred in the Nevada Cemetery. They have lived in that township for many year and she was highly esteemed by all her neighbors as an amiable and just woman. She leaves a husband and grown up family to mourn her loss.
