From Story County Watchman October 12, 1888

DIED.--At her residence in Maxwell, Oct. 4, '88, Mrs. Sarah Wells, aged 71 years, 11 months. Mrs. Wells was born in Warren county, N. J., afterward removed to Illinois and from there to Polk county, Iowa where she lived thirty-two years, excepting several years spent in Maxwell. She was converted to God in early life, was a devoted christian, leading an upright and exemplary life and died resting on the promises of a blessed immortality beyond the grave. Being of a kind and obliging disposition, she made friends where ever she went. Mrs. Wells was the mother of nine children, five sons and four daughters, all of whom survive her and all were present at her burial but two. The funeral services were held in the M. E. Church, Friday, conducted by Rev. Nickols and attended by a large assemblage of sorrowing friends. The remains were then conveyed to the Peoria cemetery and laid to rest beside her companion who had preceded her to the land of rest a number of years ago.--Maxwell Tribune
