From Story County Watchman August 31, 1888

DIED.--On Wednesday at her residence near this city Mrs. I. H. Mathews, aged 53 years. Mrs. Mathews was born in Hardin County, Ohio, and came to Story County with her husband in 1874, and settled near this place where she has since resided. She leaves a mourning husband and two daughters, Mrs. N. V. Whitney and Mrs. J. T. Fitton, both of whom live at this point. She was a lady highly esteemed by her associates all of who are sorry to hear of this result of her illness. The funeral takes place to-day.

DIED.--Amanda L. Mathews was borne in Champaign County, Ohio, Aug. 27, 1835. Died at her home near Nevada, Story County, Iowa, Aug. 29, 1888. She was married to I. H. Mathews, Sept 21st 1852, in Hardin County, Ohio. Fourteen years ago she came with her husband and family to Iowa and settled in Story County where she lived till the time of her death. Thirty-two years ago she was converted and joined the M. E. Church and has since lived faithful member of the same. During her last illness she suffered much but she was patient and her faith in God remained unshaken till the last. She was a faithful wife, an affectionate mother and a devoted christian. She leaves a husband and two married daughters to mourn her loss. Her funeral took place at her home and was conducted by Rev. A. T. Jeffrey, assisted by a large circle of friends and relatives, who followed the remains to its last resting place in the beautiful cemetery of Nevada.
