From Story County Watchman January 27, 1888

The following resolutions were adopted by New Hope Lodge of Good Templars of this city over the death of Mr. Barnes, who was a member of the order:

WHEREAS, Since the Great Father of All in his all wise providence has seen fit to remove from our midst our beloved brother, Bert B. Barnes, we the members of New Hope Lodge No. 140, I. O. G. T., do enact the following resolutions:

1st. That while we humbly submit to the decree of Him whose "ways arn not our ways" we deplore in the death of Brother Barnes the loss of the power of life in its youth pledged to the cause of temperance.

2d. That we extend our heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family of our brother, and that the usual tokens of mourning be observed in Lodge.

3d. That a copy of these resolutions forwarded to the family of the deceased and also that they be presented for publication in our city papers.
