Bessie (Sowers) Ericson, 83, born Aug. 30, 1899, passed away Feb. 25, 1984 at a hospital in Hyattsville, MD. where she had been ill for about one week.

Bessie, the daughter of Guy and Margaret Sowers (lifetime residents of Hamilton County), was born on the family farm homestead just north of Story City on the Hamilton/Story County line. She attended country school and later graduated from Story City High School and taught for several years before her marriage in 1920 to V. A. Ericson, also a former Story City resident. They lived in South Dakota, Michigan, Illinois and Nebraska where Mr. Ericson was associated with the Northwestern Railroad. After his death in 1953, she moved to Washington, D.C. where she was associated with the University of Maryland until her retirement in 1975.

Survivors are one daughter, Beverly; son-in-law Harry Mandil, two grandchildren, Mrs. Jean Brolund and husband Greg; and Eric Mandil; also two great-grandchildren, Matthew and Elizabeth Brolund, all of Hyattsville, Md.; two sisters, Mrs. Erma Orning, Nashville, Tenn., and Mrs. Sara Holt; a brother-in-law, Albert Holt, Randall; one nephew and three nieces and a number of great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday morning, Mar. 3, at 10:30 a.m. from the Grace United Methodist Church, Story City.

The Revs. Harley Carbaugh and Larry Tantow officiated. Mrs. Dorrel Doolittle was organist and accompanied Marion Johnson as he sang, "My Faith Looks Up To Thee," "My God and I,"and "How Great Thou Art."

Casket bearers were John Wierson, Theory Wierson, Richard Sowers, Jerry Sowers, William Larson and Embert Munsen.

Burial was at Mt. Olive Cemetery, Randall.
