Vivian A. Ericson was born April 24, 1900, at Story City, where he started his railroading career.

After serving in the U. S. Navy, he returned to the Northwestern's employ and worked on the Iowa Minnesota Division and then the Dakota Division as extra telegrapher and agent.

He was sent to the Black Hills Division in 1940 with headquarters at Chadron. He served as trainmaster at Huron, S. Dak., four and one-half years and in the same capacity at Milwaukee, Wisc., and Clinton, Iowa. He was then promoted to assistant superintendent of the Wisconsin Division in Chicago. He was made joint superintendent at Ironwood, Mich., Jan. 1, 1948. In April of 1951 he was sent to Norfolk as superintendent.

Mr. Ericson was an active member of the First Congregational church, American Legion, Masonic Blue Lodge, No. 26, A. F. and A. M., Huron; Damascus chapter, No. 25, Royal Arch Masons, Norfolk; Chamber of Commerce, Rotary club, YMCA, Railway Superintendents Association and the C. & N. W. Veterans Association.

He is survived by his wife, Bessie (nee Sowers); one daughter, Mrs. Beverly Mandil, Washington, D. C.; one granddaughter, Jean Mandil 5; one sister, Mrs. Sara Mitchel, Oakland, Calif.; and two brothers, S. A. Ericson, Ames, and Wesley T. Ericson, Boone. He was preceded in death by both parents.
