Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, Mar. 16, for Charley Sowers. Services for relatives were held in the Albert Holt home at Randall at 1:30 and in the Elim Lutheran church at 2 p.m.

Charley Sowers, born May 16th, 1878 in Ellsworth township, Hamilton county, Iowa, passed away suddenly from a heart attack while visiting with his niece, Mrs. Albert Holt, in her home. It was not known that he had been ill although those nearest to him had noticed in the last few months he seemed to be less active which no doubt was due to the fact he was aware of his heart condition. He never complained and was always cheerful and happy.

Charley was born of pioneer parents, Lindsey and Rebecca Ward Sowers on the family homestead north of Story City. He was the youngest of eight children. All the family have preceded him in death.

Charley farmed for a number of years with his brother Pliny, but about forty years ago an accident in which his spine was injured caused his retirement.

He was never married, but for many years made his home with his brother, Guy and family. He moved with them to Randall in 1928 and later purchased a small home on an adjoining lot, in which he had lived until his death.

His love for outdoor life, children and pets has endeared him to many people in Randall and surrounding community. There are many who will mourn his sudden passing.

He is survived by one sister-in-law, Mrs. Guy Sowers, and many nieces and nephews, most of them in this community; also a host of other relatives and friends.

Burial was made in Mt. Olive cemetery in Randall where Charley was caretaker for a number of years. Pallbearers were Herbert Halleland Jr., Oliver Johnson, Sherman Thompson, John N. Peterson, Robert Sopeland and Richard Teigland.
