From Story County Watchman April 7, 1882

A SAD DEATH.--This morning came the sad tidings that George Wainscott was dead. Less than a week ago these pages chronicled the decease of his last child and now the stricken widow alone remains of all the erstwhile happy family. The deadly disease that has so cruelly devastated the home was scarlet fever. Mr. Wainscott has resided in Des Moines about ten years. He was a nephew of Justice Miller, of the U. S. Supreme court and for some time after his arrival here had charge of the office of U. S. district attorney. He was highly esteemed for his genial disposition and pleasant manners. Of late he has been in the employ of the government as store-keeper at the Atlas distillery. He has passed from earth in the prime of life, leaving a widow to whose grief at his death is added the fresh memory of two beautiful children buried from sight just before him. In the dark shadow so cruelly resting in her young life may she find solace from the source whence all mercy comes.
--Des Moines Daily News

Mrs. Wainscott is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Pierce, of Grant township, who are well known to our citizens who will will sympathize with them in their loss.
