Jean Pierre Hauter, 92, of Washington, Iowa, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010, at United Presbyterian Home. Inurnment will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 10, at First Presbyterian Church, 802 12th St., in Marion. A luncheon will be served immediately following the memorial service at the church, and the family is inviting everyone stay for a time to visit.
Jean Pierre Hauter was born July 24, 1918, in Winfield, the son of Lewis W. and Marjorie (Gurney) Hauter. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during World War II as a chaplain holding the rank of captain. He married Marie E. Smith on Aug. 25, 1943, in Evanston, Ill. He was a Presbyterian minister, serving the communities of Cedar Rapids, Perry, Marion, Kenosha, Wis., and Ames. He was a member of Racine, Wis., Astronomical Society, Lions Club International, Kiwanis International, Masonic Lodge and Rotary International.
He is survived by his children, Walter Hauter and wife, Margaret, of Pacifica, Calif., Bea Miller and husband, Ken, of Le Claire, Wis., Jeanette Minor and husband, Marvin, of Urbandale, and John Hauter and wife, Kia, of Kenosha, Wis.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Gwen Converse, of Fort Wayne, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie, and his parents.
Memorial donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church in Marion and Kenosha, Wis.
