From Story County Watchman May 6, 1881
On Monday night about mid-night a young man named Jas. McCullough in the employ of Sam McHose at the brickyard was discovered by the family of Mr. Pointer, with whom he boarded in an unconscious and dying condition. Medical assistance was at once procured but within a few minutes after the arrival of the physician he breathed his last.
Deceased had been indisposed for a few days with mumps and his death is supposed to have been caused by a transfer of the inflamation to the internal organs. He was about seventeen years old a native of Douglass Co., Mo., and had lived in this vicinity about eighteen months.
