Gyl Paulette Stenson, 63, of Ames, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010, at her home. Per Gyl’s request, she has been cremated, and no public services have been planned.

Gyl was born July 30, 1947, in Kansas City, Mo., and was the only child of Fredrick W. and Pearl P. (Miller) Stenson. She was a 1965 graduate of Nevada High School and also graduated from Des Moines Area Community College. Gyl was employed at Wal-Mart as a retail clerk.

Gyl is survived by a son, Larry Tuma; a daughter, Jolene (Mike) Walls, all of Nevada; and three grandchildren, Michael Bolin and Ashley and Crystal Walls.

Gyl was preceded in death by her father, Fred, on Feb. 20, 1991, and her mother, Pearl, on Oct. 27, 2007.

A memorial fund has been established in Gyl’s name, and cards may be directed to Larry Tuma, 917 12th Street, Nevada, Iowa, 50201

Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Gyl and her family.
