Cleo Mabel Kalsem, 99, died Thursday, Nov. 26, 2010, at Abington on Grand in Ames. Her funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, at Bethany Lutheran Church, Kelley. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 29, at Adams Funeral Home.
Cleo was born April 7, 1911, in rural Ames, to Jasper C. and Minnie Spurling Bates. On Jan. 23, 1932, she married Porter Kalsem. Porter passed away on July 31, 1956. Cleo has been a lifetime resident of Story County. Following the death of her husband, Cleo cooked at Nevada and Ames schools and at fraternities and sororities at Iowa State University.
Cleo is survived by three daughters, Marjory (Loren) Muench, Ames; June Squire, Marshalltown; Rebecca Gater, Sarasota, Fla.; two sons, Jim (Murley) Kalsem, Ames and Roger Kalsem, Waterloo; 14 grandchildren, Jim, Bill, Joe, Mike, Marie, Kevin, Ken, Nancy, Mark, Bert, Annette, Maggie, Clint and Jon; and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, John C. Kalsem; three brothers; and one sister.
Adams Funeral Home and Cremation Service is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
