THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, November 17, 2010.

Leonard S. Johnson, 91, of Webster City, died Monday, Nov. 15, 2010, at Mary Greeley Medical Center at Ames. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, southeast of Stanhope. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, at Foster Funeral and Cremation Center in Webster City, and at the church prior to the service.

Leonard S. Johnson, 91, of Webster City, died Monday, Nov. 15, 2010, at Mary Greeley Medical Center at Ames. Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, southeast of Stanhope, with the Rev. Andy Coyle officiating. Burial was in St. Paul’s Cemetery.

Visitation was from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, at Foster Funeral and Cremation Center in Webster City, and at the church prior to the service.

Leonard Sylvester Johnson, son of Lewis M. and Anna Serina (Sarah) Olson Johnson, was born Sept. 9, 1919, on the family farm near Jewell. He attended rural schools in that area. During 1942 and 1943, he served with the U.S. Army. On Sept. 19, 1942, he married Margaret L. Hersom at Fairmont, Minn. The couple farmed in the Jewell area from 1943 until retiring in 1982 and moving to Webster City. Mrs. Johnson died Nov. 19, 2001. Leonard continued to reside in Webster City. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Roger Kleven, of Walnut Grove, Minn.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Deb Johnson, of Hudson, and Randy and Dixie Johnson, of Storm Lake; grandchildren, Paul and Kelly Kleven, Dennis and Laura Kleven, Brad and Jodi Johnson, Corey and Robyn Johnson, Amy and Trevor Woods, and Jeremy Johnson and Katie Johnson; eight great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter; one sister, Esther Ness, of Story City; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Millie Johnson; and two sisters in infancy.
