Virgil Kokemiller (1930-2010)

THE STORY CITY HERALD, Story City, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, October 13, 2010.

Virgil Kokemiller, 80, of 804 Marion Street in Boone passed away at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames on Monday afternoon, October 4, 2010.

He was born on May 15, 1930 in Boone, Iowa the son of Carl and Gladys (Garrison) Kokemiller.
Virgil was a 1948 graduate of Story City High School and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the U.S. Air Force.

On June 14, 1959, he married Myrna Kilstofte at the Bergen Lutheran Church in Roland, Iowa.

The couple lived in Stratford for a number of years, where Virgil was employed as a carpenter until June of 1972, when they moved to Boone.
Virgil owned and operated Kokemiller Oil Company in Boone until the early 1990's when he sold the business and retired. Virgil enjoyed singing, participated in the Story City Men's Chorus, and sang in his Church choir. He loved the out-of-doors, spending time on the farm helping when needed and getting together each day with his coffee group.

He was a member of the Augustana Lutheran Church, where he actively served and volunteered where needed and the Boone Lion's Club.

His parents; wife Myrna in May of 2010; a brother Darrell in August of 1990; and his Aunt, Mary Kokemiller in 1977, who helped raise the four Kokemiller boys, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his two daughters Carmen Kokemiller and Connie Kokemiller both of Boone; two brothers, Marvin Kokemiller and wife Pauline of Story City, Iowa and Richard Kokemiller and wife Eunice of Hazel Green, Wisconsin; nieces and nephews.

Services were held on Saturday morning, October 9th at 10:00 a.m. at the Augustana Lutheran Church in Boone with Pastor Daniel Solomon officiating.

Interment was in the Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to express their sympathies through a memorial may direct their gift to the family for a memorial to be determined at a later date.
