THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, November 12, 2010.

Evelyn K. Weichers passed away Sept. 25, 2010, after a short illness in Palm Desert, Calif. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, at Fjeldberg Lutheran Church in Huxley. She will be put to rest in Roland with her immediate family.

She was born Oct. 14, 1932, the youngest daughter of Pauline and August Newgaard, in Story County.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Donald Weichers; both of her parents; four sisters, Evangeline Newgaard, Helen Wells, Arlett McKee and Odellia Lantz; and two brothers, Owen Newgaard and Gene Newgaard.

She moved to Stover, Mo., with her family while she was still in high school and graduated from Stover, Mo., in 1950. After high school, she lived in Kansas City and then moved to San Diego. While living in San Diego she met her husband, Don, and they both worked for Convair Airline Company. They married on June 18, 1960, and moved to Cheyenne, Wyo., where Don worked as a job shopper engineer. They eventually moved to Seattle, where Don worked as an engineer for the Boeing Company. Boeing transferred them to Philadelphia, Pa., where they lived for a few years. After retiring from Boeing, they built a house on Whidbey Island, Wash., and spent their winters at their home in Thousand Palms, Calif.

Evelyn spent many hours working on her crafts, such as quilting, decorating eggs, sewing and flower arranging. She received many awards for her achievements and loved working on her crafts.

She was a great friend and a wonderful aunt to all of her nieces, nephews and their families and her in-laws, and will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. We all have many, many fond memories. May she rest in peace.

Adams Funeral Home and Cremation Service is assisting with arrangements.
