THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, November 12, 2010.

Iris Virginia Wing, 93, of Story City, passed away Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010, at Bethany Manor in Story City. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 15, at Bethany Manor Chapel in Story City. Visitation of family and friends will be one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, at Springfield National Cemetery in Springfield, Mo.

Iris Wing was born March 11, 1917, to George and Ethel (Burrows) Poynor in Wichita, Kansas. She married Roy Huls in 1936. During World War II, Iris was a “Rosie the Riveter” and worked as a welder in the shipyards in San Francisco, Calif. Her husband, Roy, passed away in 1974. She married Monroe Wing July 31, 1977. Iris had lived in the Story City community since December 2005.

Iris is survived by her son, Bill (Betsy) Huls, of Nevada, Iowa; two grandchildren, Brett (Annie) and Brooke; one great-grandchild, Conner; and her brother, Richard Poynor, of Wichita, Kan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; and two sisters, Ethelyn and Maxine.
