THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, November 10, 2010.

Gardine “Gar” Madeiros, 78, of Nevada, passed away Sunday, Nov. 7, 2010, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Per Gar’s wishes, he has been cremated and a private inurnment will be at a later date.

Gar was born in Warwick Parish, Bermuda, on Dec. 20, 1931, to Manuel and Louise (DeFontes) Madeiros. He married Edna DeGeus on March 3, 1990, at Pleasant Grove Church. He had earned the title of certified master baker and worked for Randall/Cub Foods as the bakery manager. He enjoyed baking, spending time with family, golfing, gambling, gardening and boating.

He is survived by his wife, Edna, of Nevada; five children, Julie (Art) Hofman, of Urbandale, Debbie (Brian) Finnegan, of Ionia, and Jerry J. (Lori) Arends, of Nevada, his children from a previous marriage, Joy (Scott) Potter, of Kansas City, Mo., and Jeff Madeiros, of Zearing; one brother, Manuel Edwin Madeiros, of Hopkins, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one niece; four nephews; and his special toy poodle, Teddy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Nick; and one sister, Rosalind.

Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada is in charge of arrangements.
