Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 8, at Asbury United Methodist Church in Webster City, with the Rev. Linda Bibb officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.

Dolores Jean Sterling was born Aug. 4, 1920, in Webster City, to Paul and Mae Arnold Sterling. She and her half-brother, Darol Sterling, lived on a farm south of Beach Street during her early childhood. She attended parochial school at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church for three years before changing to a country school. She attended several high schools but graduated in 1936 from Mountain Grove High School in Mountain Grove, Mo. She became a cosmetologist after graduating from Pitze’s School of Cosmetology at Waterloo.

In 1938, she met her husband, Robert Ladd, and on July 4, 1939, they were married. Their daughter, Sally, was born in 1940. Mr. Ladd operated a grocery store and meat locker business in New Sharon until 1953. At that time, the family of three moved to a farm five miles south of Webster City and Mr. Ladd began a new occupation in farming.

The Ladd family joined the Asbury Methodist Church upon their arrival to Webster City, and Dolores became involved in the United Methodist Women organization, taught Sunday school for several years and, from 1967 until 1977, was a secretary at the church.

She was a member of Chapter NR of the P.E.O. sisterhood and served as an officer several years. She loved playing bridge, sewing, decorating her homes, entertaining friends and family, and, most of all, bestowing affection on her family.

Those surviving her include her daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Richard Wilson, of Ames; her grandson, Jeffrey (Marcia) Wilson, of San Antonio, Texas, and granddaughter, Sarah (Jeremy) Buckels, of Ames. Her surviving great-grandchildren are Kara (Cory) Thomas, of Pleasant Hill, Joshua Robert Wilson, of Bondurant, and Zachary Anderson and Hannah Buckels, of Ames; and great-great-granddaughter, Lilly Thomas, of Pleasant Hill. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Barbara (Ray) Simpson, of Kellogg, Mary Lou (Richard) Runyon, of Fairfax, Va., and Carolyn Ladd, June Ladd and Coleen McGriff, of New Sharon; and several loving nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Ladd was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, “Bob;” and her grandson, John Wilson.

Memorials may be sent to Asbury United Methodist Church of Webster City or bIsrael Family Hospice House in Ames.
